Nature is constantly evolving. Seasons fade, roots spread within the Earth, flowers bloom then slowly wither: a never-ending cycle of renewal and decomposition.
Temporal Images was created to mirror the changing forces of nature.
These lumens were created by placing botanicals on top of photo paper, then exposing them to sunlight. The resulting images were not put through the fixing process, meaning they are still sensitive to light. Over time, they will become over-exposed; they’ll one day fade.
Photographs are viewed as permanent records of the world, images that will outlive humankind. These will not. These lumens have a lifespan of their own.
Through this body of work, I reflect on my own impermanence, the impermanence of the world around me, and humanity’s lasting impact. I aim to explore what will be left behind after humankind: faded impressions or something more permanent?
