Manchester, NH – Arts Build Community (ABC) and the civic crowdfunding platform Patronicity have launched a mural campaign, Community Canvas, to bring more public art to the City of Manchester’s downtown, neighborhoods, and parks in 2024. This second biannual art week in Manchester will take place from August 8–18, with new large-scale murals, art installations, immersive experiences, tours, and events. Community Canvas Mural is a creative movement organized by Arts Build Community and a committee of passionate members from the local nonprofit, business, creative, and collegiate communities.
This second mural festival brings up to 10 local, regional, and national artists to the heart of Manchester for a 10-day festival. During the program, artists will host community events such as artist talks, story circles, and youth art workshops. Artists will actively engage and listen to community members, gathering their stories, experiences, and perspectives to integrate them into each mural. The closing celebration will be a block party, bringing the muralists, residents, businesses, and community organizations together.
“Following the success of the 2022 festival, Arts Build Community is excited to partner with the Manchester Chamber of Commerce, the Boys and Girls Club of Manchester, and My Turn to bring more immersive cultural experiences to Manchester in 2024,” said ABC founder James Chase. “With the full support of our community, more than 15 artists from across New Hampshire, New England, and the globe travelled to Manchester in 2022 and 2023, adding nine murals and three installations to the growing Arts Build Community Canvas Mural Program portfolio. We’re excited to kick off this fundraising campaign and continue giving the people of northern New England a sense of place and a sense pride through public art.”
ABC has launched a $60,000 crowdfunding campaign to bring the Community Canvas Mural Program to life. Anyone can support by making a personal gift or becoming a corporate sponsor. All proceeds go towards materials, artist stipends, and free community events.
“As the largest city in the state, it is important to engage public spaces in a way that instills a sense of belonging among residents and provides opportunity for people from all walks of life to interact via creative activities,” commented ABC’s Chase.
The Community Canvas Mural Program is fiscally sponsored by the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce and supported in part by sponsorships, crowdfunding, and in-kind donations. To date, ABC has partnered with Aroma Joe’s, Boys and Girls Club, City of Manchester, My Turn, New England College, New Hampshire Fisher Cats, St. Mary’s Bank, and To Share Brewing Company for this year’s program.
