Black History Month: A Community Message
Dear New England College Community,
In the words of author, poet, and civil rights activist, Dr. Maya Angelou, “We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter their color.” This sentiment encapsulates the essence of Black History Month, reminding us to celebrate the vibrant contributions of the Black community throughout history. It also affirms a truth I’ve come to appreciate that Black history is American history and that so much of American history that we celebrate is Black history.
In the mosaic of our shared heritage, Black History Month is a time to honor the achievements, resilience, and cultural richness of the Black experience. As we navigate the complexities of our era, let us appreciate and embrace the diverse threads that form our collective history.
To all members of our community, New England College extends heartfelt recognition during Black History Month. May this month be a time of reflection, education, and celebration of the profound impact members of the Black community have made and continue to make in shaping our world.
Wishing you a month filled with enlightenment and appreciation!
